Project Details

Have you ever flipped through the pages of a magazine and stumbled upon a house you fell in love with?

I loved this property located in the Mission District of San Francisco and designed by Architect Craig Steely. By using aerial google maps captures and images from the Architecst's website , I managed to obtain approximate measurements to recreate this amazing house in virtual reality.

This is the workflow

  1. SketchUp to model a simplified version of the house.  SketchUp is a 3D modeling program used  mainly in the architectural and interior design fields.
  2. Blender for detailed modelling and PBR materials.
  3. Unity for final level design and VR implementation.  I had fun creating an UI inspired by Spatial VR, an application that focuses on VR meetings.

Additional information

It is important to be careful when using high poly models, heavy textures, real-time lighting, shadows, and physics. The incorrect implementation of these elements can reduce the FPS and break the immersion experience. Optimization techniques such as light and shadow baking should always be part of the development process for most mobile applications.

We can improve the workflow described above by exporting the Revit model of the house directly to Unity Reflect Review. This platform is Unity’s solution to bring Autodesk Revit models into AR and VR to facilitate design reviews.
